Growing up in this era can be challenging, especially with all the social media and technology we have now. Your mistakes can be recorded or documented and live forever online. Learning some life lessons is more important now than ever. Here are 13 things every 20-year-old needs to know.

1. Take Good Care of Your Teeth

Taking care of your teeth is extremely important. They can cause you lots of pain and be extremely costly to fix dental issues later down the road. Skipping your nighttime brushing at the end of a long day may not seem like a big deal, but it can become detrimental in the long run.

2. Avoid Social Media Addiction

Try not to succumb to social media addiction. Sure, it can prove to be helpful in many ways, including keeping you informed and entertained. However, it can be highly addictive and harmful to your mental health. Keeping it to healthy small doses is preferred.

3. Prioritize Your Health

Take care of your health. If your doctor is advising you to make changes in your 20s, fix it while you can. As you age, improving your health becomes more difficult and can ultimately cause irreversible damage.

4. Consistency is Key

Consistency and focus will pay off for you in the end. Be sure to pace yourself as you work toward achieving your goals. The important thing is that you are moving in the right direction, and don’t give up!

5. Age

Some people start feeling as though they’re getting old in their 20s, but you’re still in the first quarter of life. In the grand scheme of things, you are still young. Take your time and enjoy your life, as you still have much left to live.

6. Rediscover Yourself

Try to retain the passions you had when you were younger. As we get older, we can often get distracted by the things we need to do to succeed in life and lose the things that are truly important to us. Rediscover your younger self and try to keep the things you love alive.

8. Start a Retirement Fund

It may seem silly to think about retirement in your 20s, but the very best thing you can do for your future self is to start saving and planning as early as possible. Many people grow up and admit their silly mistakes, starting one later.

9. Judgment

Most of the time, people aren’t judging you; they most likely don’t even notice you. It is all in your head and your insecurities you are projecting on yourself.

10. Be a Lifelong Learner

It’s okay to admit that you don’t know something. It is the most helpful thing you can do because you can learn something new now. Failure to disclose it not only makes you look bad but also hinders your growth of knowledge.

11. Your Looks

Your looks don’t matter as much as you think they do. Yes, taking care of yourself and having good hygiene is important, but stop comparing your beauty to someone else’s or thinking someone won’t like you based on your appearance. Genuine people who truly want to get to know you will love who you are, not how you look. Looks do fade over time.

12. Stay True to Yourself

When choosing something to study in school, choose something you are naturally good at and enjoy. Stay true to yourself; you’re the one who will have to do the work day in and day out. Choose something you’re truly interested in and passionate about.

13. Emotional State

Choose to act based on your values and not your emotional state. How you are feeling at any given time is bound to fluctuate. Take a deep breath and remember what you are trying to represent.
