For most people, life throws some very difficult circumstances their way. It can be difficult for people in your life to relate to the things you’ve been through, as some experiences people can never truly understand unless they’ve experienced it for themself. Here are 11 life events you just can’t explain to another person unless they’ve been through a similar situation.

As people age, they lose their faculties, and their minds aren’t as sharp as they used to be. They almost become different people, and taking care of them can be completely draining in every way: physically, mentally, and emotionally.

2. Chronic Disability

Having to live day to day with something that can’t be controlled or remedied can be difficult. The fact that the average person has no idea what they are going through can also add to the frustration.

3. Mental Health Struggles

Many people try to sympathize when someone in their life is dealing with mental health issues. However, the reality is that mental health is incredibly complex and difficult to predict.

Experiencing a car crash can result in significant injuries depending on the severity of the impact. Not only are the physical injuries something someone might have to heal through, but they can also affect someone’s ability to get back into a car again.

Believe it or not, something as “small” as a kidney stone can be excruciatingly painful. In some cases, they are too big to pass and can result in surgery to remove them.

Nothing can prepare someone for losing their home. Resources aren’t always as readily available as we like to think. Shelters can be dangerous. Not to mention all the mental stresses endured through lack of privacy, belongings getting stolen, or being in fear for your life.

8. Infidelity

No one can be prepared for the feelings of betrayal, devastation, and hurt experienced after being cheated on. It’s a sinking feeling in your gut that won’t go away and may cause extreme trust issues that can arise in the future.

When someone says they can’t stand something being out of place, then follows it with the phrase “I am so OCD,” it’s like a slap in the face to people who live with true obsessive-compulsive disorder. It’s more than just wanting to be organized; it’s a debilitating disease filled with many unwanted thoughts and feelings of constant guilt and seeking reassurance.

10. Parenthood

Most people don’t realize how underprepared they are for parenting. People think they know the investment and what they are getting themselves into. The truth is, until you’re a parent, you’ll never be truly prepared…we’re all just winging it!
