Traveling can be one of the most fulfilling things you can do in life, but it doesn’t come easy to everyone. Sometimes, anxiety and stress arise during various points of trips (whether in the planning stage or otherwise) that act as a roadblock to enjoying them! Thankfully, help is on the way. Here are some invaluable tips to rekindle your love of traveling when you need it the most!
1. Do Research
Like most things, the more you know about something, the better your chance of being passionate about it. If you’re facing a vacation or trip you’re not necessarily looking forward to, don’t worry!
Research the heck out of your destination; you’ll be surprised how pumped you get once you familiarize yourself with where you’re going. All it takes is one photo or testimonial of something awe-inspiring.
2. Get Suitably Hyped by Friends or Family
It’s okay to rely on our friends and family for motivation. Sometimes, the best way to rekindle a dormant passion is to enlist the help of your fellow travelers, even if they aren’t joining you on your next trip.
Countless men and women report that others’ enthusiasm toward traveling is infectious; before they knew it, they were more excited than before they decided to discuss their plans with others!
3. Find Can’t-Miss Travel Deals
Everybody loves a good deal; if you’re anything like me, you love nothing more than the deal of a century. Finding a can’t-miss travel deal ignites something inside of you that can’t be extinguished.
Think about it this way: When you book a trip for far less money than anticipated, it becomes a “Well, I’d be stupid not to do this” situation. Sometimes, being in the right place at the right time and landing a fantastic deal is all you need to get suitably excited!
4. Go Somewhere Outside Your Comfort Zone
If your travels have become stagnant and your passion has followed suit, it’s time to switch things up! My girlfriend and I recently made a cardinal travel mistake: We booked two trips to all-inclusive resorts (a few months apart) without a “buffer” trip in between.
As a result, we weren’t nearly as excited for the second trip as we should have been because we knew what to expect (and weren’t looking forward to waking up hungover every day.) However, booking a trip to Europe in 2024 rekindled our passion, and now we are full steam ahead!
5. Have a Boring Weekend at Home
According to many experienced travelers, a lack of passion could result from travel burnout. Thankfully, an easy remedy for burnout is to spend a weekend doing nothing at home; try to be bored as much as possible.
Trust me, although this technique seems unorthodox, it works: Your boredom will fuel your passion, and before you know it, you’ll be obsessively checking flights for a fun weekend, the opposite of what you just experienced.
6. Utilize Credit Card Rewards
You’ll find it shockingly easy to be excited about upcoming trips if you know they’ll cost you next to nothing! If you haven’t utilized credit card rewards, you leave money (and vacations) on the table.
Thanks to a handful of stellar premium credit cards like Chase’s Sapphire Reserve and Capital One’s Venture X, it’s easy to parlay everyday spending into some seriously fantastic rewards! Thanks to unbeatable credit card rewards, I’ve booked entire vacations, stays at luxury hotels, and car rentals for free. If you’re a responsible credit card user, there’s no debate: Maximize your rewards!
7. Talk About it Often
Many people believe verbalizing something makes it seem more significant in your brain, and countless men and women confess that actively talking about an upcoming trick does wonders for their excitement level.
No judgment here: Feel free to speak out loud to yourself about your upcoming trip! It’s all about being passionate about what’s about to happen.
8. Start a Travel Blog
Starting a travel blog could be just the shot in the arm you need to get your excitement levels up. If you have a knack for writing and can engagingly entertain readers, a blog is an excellent way to drum up excitement for yourself and other people.
When people read what you say, they’ll become more passionate about the subject, meaning more people will avoid travel burnout. You’ll be doing the general public a significant favor!
9. Spend Time Daydreaming
Traveling is supposed to be fun; it’s meant to be whimsical, breathtaking, and awe-inspiring. If you don’t set aside a few minutes a day to daydream about places you’ve never been and people you’ve never met, what are you waiting for?
Let yourself get lost in your thoughts, and you’ll get the uncontrollable urge to make those dreams a reality! Wishing you could travel somewhere is the first step to making it happen.
10. Adjust Your Perspective
You don’t want to live with regrets, do you? Many savvy travelers reveal that adjusting their perspective was all they needed to rekindle their lost passion for traveling. Think about all the experiences you’d miss by not seeing the world and going on grand adventures; you’d surely regret not having those, wouldn’t you?
I don’t want to think about a mundane life; for me (and many others), it’s all about going on as many unforgettable journeys as possible.
